2008 SCAMIT's Meeting Schedule.

Note Change in Date----Monday, March 17th , 2008, 9:30-3:00, at LACSD Marine Biology Lab.  Amphipod meeting to be led by Don Cadien.  The infraorder Bogidiellida will be the topic group.  We will discuss the superfamilies Bogidielloidea, Hadzioidea, and Melphidippoidea containing the families Bogidiellidae, Hadziidae, Melitidae, Melphidippidae, Hornellidae, and Megaluroipidae.  Don has been writing reviews on the amphipod fauna of the Northeastern Pacific for some time now and is beginning to share his work with SCAMIT.  You will find his reviews organized by superfamily and posted in the member protected taxonomic toolbox:

NEP.SCAMIT - Taxonomic Tool Box  section of the SCAMIT website http://www.scamit.org/.

Don encourages all who plan to attend to download the files of the three superfamilies noted above and review them for comment prior to the meeting.  Discussion will be open to local species, as well as, species from out of our area that are of interest to members.  Please bring any problematic specimens to the meeting for review and taxonomic resolution.

April 7th will be a meeting on parasitic copepods led by Dr. Julie Kalman at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium.
May 12th will be a meeting entitled "Bivalves 101: an introductory workshop on bivalve taxonomy" to led by Paul Valentich-Scott at the SBNHM.

12 May, 2008: at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. “Bivalves 101”, led by Paul Valentich Scott.

June 27 (tentative date) will be a workshop on estuarine arthropods.  It will be the second meeting co-hosted by SCAMIT and SAFIT. It will be co-led by Don Cadien and Christopher Rogers.  The proposed venue is Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and the details are being worked out now.  Live material from Morro Bay will be examined and used as an example of an estuarine arthropod fauna.  Participants will be asked to bring their own dissecting scopes and any preserved material of interest.   9:00-4:00 note time change for meeting.  I need to know how many SCAMIT members will be attending, so please RSVP with me ASAP.   Information on close-by accommodations, meeting location, and parking instructions at Cal Poly SLO will be forthcoming.

If you have any questions about any of this, please contact me.
